APH Decorators were appointed to deliver the decorating works at The Candover, Finchatton’s first venture into hospitality and a beautifully restored country pub with ten elegant guest rooms.

Formerly the historic Purefoy Arms, The Candover has been carefully reimagined as both a village pub at the heart of the local community and a welcoming countryside destination for visitors. The interiors combine timeless character with refined, considered detailing, creating a luxurious yet homely setting for dining, drinking and staying.

For APH, the project required an exceptional level of commitment, flexibility and attention to detail. With multiple trades working on site and a demanding opening deadline, the programme was extremely intense. Our team worked extended hours, including evenings and weekends, to keep momentum on site and ensure the decorating works were completed to the required standard.

The scope demanded a high-quality finish throughout the main pub areas and guest accommodation, with each space requiring careful preparation and precise application. One of the standout elements was the use of BAUWERK Colour Limewash in the main areas of the pub, which created a distinctive, textured finish that complemented the building’s character and the overall interior concept.

Working in a live, fast-moving construction environment meant APH had to remain adaptable throughout. Close coordination with other trades was essential, particularly during the final stages of the project when deadlines were tight and every detail mattered. Despite the pressure, the team maintained a consistent focus on quality, ensuring the finished spaces reflected the level of craftsmanship expected on a Finchatton project.

The result is a warm, characterful and beautifully finished hospitality venue that balances traditional country pub charm with elevated design. The Candover is now open and welcoming guests for relaxed suppers by the fire, lunches on the terrace, and countryside stays in the heart of the Candover Valley.
